Fab, you've secured an interview or audition for that next step in your career! So what now?

Whether you're preparing for a Corporate interview or a Performer Audition, the key to success is no doubt through preparation, confidence, and the ability to present yourself effectively. We have always said that half of the challenge to securing your next role is getting the interview! Employers are busy people! So they wouldn't have wasted their time inviting you to meet if they hadn't already recognised that you have potential! Everyone is different, but for those that would like some guidance on how to best prepare yourself, here are our top tips!

Step One - Make sure you understand the role

For both Corporate and Creative roles, it is important that you fully understand exactly what it is you are going for! Read over the advertised description and do your best to dissect each part of the opportunity to ensure that it is a role you will be passionate doing! This not only ensures you are prepared for what's to come, but also allows you to portray a genuine interest in the vacancy.

Step Two - Understand the company

It is important to know a little about who you are going to work for! An interview is just as much for you to find out more about an employer as it is for them; it has to be the right fit for you both! What are the company values? What is the history of the company? How do other employees review working for them? Doing this will help you prepare questions for them when you meet, too!

Step 3 - Recognise your strengths

There is a reason you were chosen to Interview/Audition! Look at the company and the role and try to recognise why they may have chosen you; pick out your key experiences or skills and prepare yourself to highlight these when meeting with the employer! Think about what you think your strengths are for the role and what morals you have that align with the company.

Step 4 - Outfit and Personal Presentation

First impressions count! Before you even sit down to discuss an opportunity, or start that audition you have already given your potential employer an idea of the effort you're going to bring to that role!

Corporate Candidates: Dress professionally, taking into account the company codes and cultures

Creative Candidates: Creative interviews/Auditions can differ - some will want you to arrive in character while others prefer business or casual dress! If you have secured an interview/Audition through an Agency/Booking Agent, be sure to confirm with them what is expected! And if you have secured it yourself, it is always better to ask than it is presume if you are unsure! It just shows that you are keen to impress.

Step 5 - Be yourself!

Let's face it, we all get nervous sometimes! But the most important thing is to just be yourself! (Well, unless of course your audition a character role - then get your best act on!).
